CAIR Office Manager
Position: Full time permanent salaried position reporting to Executive Director

Job Description:  CAIR is seeking a highly-organized and self-motivated individual to serve as an Office Manager for its national headquarters, located in Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C. The Office Manager will report to the Executive Director and will be responsible for the organizing the day-to-day activities of the office.  The Office Manager is responsible for supporting staff members and ensuring that their work is done efficiently. 

General Duties: 

  • Ensure the proficient and organized daily functioning of the office;
  • Plan, coordinate and direct support services for the organization;
  • Provide Human Resources assistance to the accounting department;
  • Maintain some CAIR databases
  • Assist with operational and administrative needs, including but not limited to answering phones, managing staff schedules, office inventory, and sorting mail;
  • Manage contracts
  • Other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have the following:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills required;
  • 1-3 years administrative experience is preferred;
  • The ability to work quickly and decisively under pressure is desired:
  • The ability to build positive community relationships is desired;
  • Professional appearance and demeanor required;
  • A college degree in management or related field is preferred;
  • Passion for the mission of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is preferred;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills required;
  • Knowledge of office management is required;
  • Demonstrable experience as an effective leader is required;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines is required;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook with internet research skills also required; and
  • Knowledge of PowerPoint and the ability to type 40 w.p.m. preferred.

CAIR Project Manager

CAIR's Project Manager will work full-time for a period of 3-5 months in Washington, D.C., on a major educational and outreach initiative.

Those applying for the position should be self-motivated team players who have good organizational, marketing and communications skills. The position may require travel, public speaking and fundraising.

Experience in project management is required, as is an ability to maintain goals and deadlines and to work effectively with outside vendors.

The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) has an opening for the full-time position of Executive Director.

Job Title: CAIR-NY Executive Director
Position: Full-time salaried position
Salary: Competitive

Job Description: This position will be the focal point for communications, activities, and programs emanating from CAIR–NY’s office.

Duties shall include but not be limited to:

  • Fulfill Executive Director’s duties in accordance with CAIR’s mission and objectives as stipulated in CAIR-NY bylaws through consultation with President and implementation of the Board of Director’s (“Board”) decisions
  • Offer proposals to the President and the Board regarding special projects and events for the organization
  • Report to the President by issuing a monthly plan of action and a monthly report on the organization’s operations and achievements
  • Research for, prepare and write various grants to accomplish the organization’s not-for- profit operations
  • Oversee the office operations of all departments, preparing annual budget and civil rights annual report
  • Organize and conduct fundraising events on behalf of the organization, such as the annual banquet
  • Represent the organization in public and civil rights forums at various venues, including but not limited to organizing and participating in lectures and seminars as part of mosque outreach
  • Media watch and engagement with national and local media outlets on a regular basis
  • Meet with corporate and government officials to coordinate community efforts
  • Keep close contact with other CAIR chapters and CAIR National

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree with three years minimum working experience in a related field with NGOs. A masters degree is preferable but not a requirement. Good organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills; possession of superior communication skills(both verbal and written); a solid understanding of issues relating to Islam and Muslims; and an outgoing and proactive disposition is required. Legal background is a plus.

Ohio - Columbus

CAIR COLUMBUS SEEKS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

CAIR-Ohio a non-profit, grassroots American-Muslim advocacy group established in 1998.  CAIR-Ohio currently has three chapters – Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati.  The national office, founded in 1994, is located in Washington, D.C. with 35 chapters nationwide.  CAIR’s mission is to enhance understanding of Islam and Muslims, empower American-Muslims, and promote justice.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director reports to the board of directors and chapter Executive Board.  She is responsible for the fulfillment of the organization’s mission and the development and implementation of its strategies.  The Executive Director serves as the chief executive of the chapter, overseeing and providing strategic leadership for the chapter’s continued growth and development.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

General Management:

Oversee all daily operations

Act as the primary contact person for the hiring of staff

Manage all paid staff and contractors
Coordinate the maintenance and upkeep of the office facility

Board of Directors and

Executive Committee Relations:

 

Attend all Board, Executive Committee, and Special Committee meetings
Prepare agendas and materials for Board or Executive Committee meetings

Financial Management:

Coordinating with the Board Treasurer to develop and oversee annual budget
Monitor and manage revenue and expenses in QuickBooks
Provide financial reports to the Executive Committee, and annual reports to the Board of Directors

Fund Development:

Continuation of on-going fundraisers and development of future events
Grant writing, cultivation of existing and new donors
Membership campaigns and Annual Fund Drive management

Community Relations:

Act as the public face for the CAIR Columbus Chapter

Conduct educational and diversity training workshops about Islam and Muslims
Interface and build relationships with community members, organizations, and interfaith leaders

Manage contracts, grants, and relationships

Public and Media Relations:

Oversee PR pieces including reports, literature, campaign themes, announcements and advertisements
Develop and disseminate news releases, newsletters, action alerts, press statements, and talking points

Develop relationships with and interact with media on an ongoing basis and monitor media coverage

Civic and Government Relations:

 

Conduct meeting with local, state, federal government officials on an ongoing basis

Meet and collaborate with civil rights organizations on common causes

Establish educational events and campaigns for community empowerment

 

Program Development:

Maintain existing programs and campaigns
Develop new educational and civic participation programs and campaigns

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters Degree Preferred

Three years work experience with a non-profit organization or in a related field
Experience working with a Board of Directors
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Experience in developing, managing, reporting and accountability to budgets
Strategic planning and organization skills

Ability to raise funds and motivate the Muslim community

Some evenings, weekends, and travel will be required
