CAIR-Sacramento Director Receives Civil Rights Awards


CAIR-SACRAMENTO DIRECTOR RECEIVES CIVIL RIGHTS AWARDS

(SACRAMENTO, CA, 5/29/07) - CAIR-Sacramento Valley (CAIR-SV) Executive Director Basim Elkarra was recently honored for his work for civil and human rights.

The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) North California Western Nevada Pacific (NCWNP) District honored Elkarra with a resolution for "exemplary contributions to civil and human rights after 9/11."

Elkarra also received the Daruma Civil Rights Award, which was presented by the Berkeley, Florin, Honolulu, Lodi, and Marysville JACL chapters.

Elkarra also recently received the Un-Sung Hero Award from the Harry Truman Club, in recognition of his civil rights work and as an outspoken proponent for worker and immigrant rights in California. Jerry Chong, Chief Legal Council on CAPITAL, also received an Un-Sung Hero award for his work to empower minority groups.
