ACTION ALERT: CAIR and Khizr Khan Mobilize Muslim Voters Ahead of the Election

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/3/16) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is mobilizing voters through a national get-out-the -vote (GOTV) automated phone message this weekend recorded by Gold Star father and constitutional rights activist Khizr Khan.

This weekend’s nonpartisan robocall will urge Muslim American voters to go to the polls on Tuesday, November 8 and will be heard by more than 400,000 registered Muslim voters, their families and friends.

As a nonpartisan tax-exempt organization, CAIR encourages American Muslims to participate in national and state elections and the robocall does not support one candidate or party over another.

Listen to GOTV Call by Khizr Khan:

In the automated call on behalf of CAIR, Khan said:

“Hello, this is constitutional rights activist Khizr Khan calling on behalf of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), reminding you regardless of your faith or background that Tuesday November 8 is election day.

“This election will not only determine who will lead our nation as president but the results of a number of local and state races.

Please take a moment to determine where your polling place is located by visiting online Vote411.org. Again this is Khizr Khan and CAIR reminding you to vote.”

ACTION REQUESTED:

• Go to the polls on Tuesday, November 8, and vote for the candidates of your choice. To find your polling place, click here: http://www.vote411.org/

• Remind and encourage your friends and family members to vote.

• Use social media to encourage all eligible voters to go to the polls.

• Offer to help friends, co-workers and family members get to the polls.

• Community leaders should use their communications networks to encourage congregations to vote.

• Convince one person who did not plan to vote to go to the polls.

CAIR is distributing copies of its “2016 National Voter Guide” that offers resources to assist Muslims nationwide as they prepare to vote in the November election. CAIR’s voter guide includes a congressional scorecard and presidential voter guide.

CAIR recently launched MuslimsGOTV.com, an election resource website that prominently features videos encouraging Muslim voters to register to vote and turn out on election day, and resources on registering to vote, absentee and early voting, and locating polling stations, among other CAIR produced election materials.

Protecting Muslim Voter Rights

CAIR is urging members of the Muslim community to contact CAIR if they believe that their voting rights have been violated: (202) 742-6420 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

CAIR’s Civil Rights Department and national network of chapters will coordinate election day reporting to make sure complaints are addressed as quickly and effectively as possible.  CAIR chapters will also be working in the coming days to educate Muslim voters about their rights on election day.

In October, CAIR release the results of a nationwide survey of Muslim voters on the upcoming presidential election and on issues of concern to the Muslim community. The survey found that 85% of polled Muslim voters believed that Islamophobia and anti-Muslim sentiment in the U.S. has increased in the past year. Moreover, 30% of respondents say they have experienced discrimination or profiling in the past year.

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

La misión de CAIR es mejorar la comprensión del Islam, fomentar el diálogo, proteger las libertades civiles, capacitar a los musulmanes estadounidenses, y construir coaliciones que promuevan la justicia y la comprensión mutua.
