CAIR Action Alert: Support the Freedom of Religion Act Today

fileProhibit Religious Litmus Tests for Immigrants and Travelers

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/2/2017) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is calling on all Americans to urge their elected representative in the U.S. House to support the Freedom of Religion Act, introduced by Congressman Don Beyer (D-Va.).

The prohibits religious litmus tests for people seeking to enter the United States. While religious profiling undermines American ideals, there is currently no law that prohibits such tests in our immigration system.

“This act has the ability to undo some of the worst provisions of President Trump’s Muslim ban executive order,” said CAIR Director of Government Affairs Robert S. McCaw.

He said CAIR believes that religious based immigration or travel bans hurt the United States, our relationships abroad and makes us less safe.

President Donald Trump’s Muslim ban is an exclusion order that is Islamophobically driven and unlawfully bars Muslims entering into America. This executive order is not based on security, or facts, and is only based on anti-Muslim bigotry.

CAIR has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of more than 20 named and “john doe” individuals challenging the constitutionality of President’s Trump’s “Muslim ban” order.

La misión de CAIR es mejorar la comprensión del Islam, fomentar el diálogo, proteger las libertades civiles, capacitar a los musulmanes estadounidenses, y construir coaliciones que promuevan la justicia y la comprensión mutua.
