News Conference, Rally to Kick Off 'Texas Muslim Capitol Day'

Texas-State-Capito-building(Houston, Texas, 1/28/15) -- On Thursday, January 29, Muslims from across the state will hold a news conference and rally to kick off "Texas Muslim Capitol Day" organized by the Texas chapters of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Texas), the nation's leading Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization. Numerous other civic organizations are supporting the event, which is expected to draw some 1,000 Muslims for meetings with lawmakers.

CAIR Reps Speak at White House Rally on Gitmo Anniversary

On Sunday, January 11, CAIR staff joined a coalition of human rights activists, torture survivors, Guantanamo attorneys, 9-11 family members, and members of diverse faith communities at a rally outside the White House. After the rally, the protesters marched through the streets of D.C. to the National Archives to mark the 13th anniversary of the first arrival of prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. CAIR Offers Condolences on Passing of Dr. Maher Hathout

CAIR-logo(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/3/2015) - The board and staff of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today offered sincere condolences on the passing of Dr. Maher Hathout, who died last night at the age of 79. Dr. Hathout, a longtime leader of the Islamic Center of Southern California and founder of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), was nationally and internationally respected as a pioneering advocate for American Muslim empowerment and outreach to other faith communities.

Maryland School Board Adds Muslim Holiday to Calendar

(SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, 12/16/2014 -- The New Jersey chapter for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) and the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) today called on East Brunswick's Board of Education to approve a petition to include the Muslim holidays of Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha on the school calendar.
