On Saturday, September 28, CAIR will present the first-ever "Muslim of the Year" award during its 19th annual banquet at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va.
The national award, one of CAIR's "2013 Muslim Community Awards," is the result of nominations solicited from the American Muslim community and will be presented to a person who exemplifies courageous leadership and positive civic engagement.
"We started this award because we have so many people who are doing great service to the community and to the nation that we need to recognize them on a national level to help inspire and empower others," said CAIR national Executive Director Nihad Awad.
Tickets are available online. In past years, the banquet has sold out. No tickets will be sold at the door, so register today to reserve your place.
With the theme "Faith in Freedom," the evening banquet will also feature South African Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool and Imam Siraj Wahhaj as keynote speakers.
