500 Oklahomans Attend Sold-Out CAIR-OK Awards Banquet

CAIR-OK-banquet-2014(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, 4/7/14) -- Some 500 Oklahomans turned out on Saturday for the 8th Annual Awards Banquet of that state's chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK).

During the sold-out banquet, CAIR-OK awarded the Interfaith Alliance of Oklahoma with the "Building Bridges Interfaith Leadership Award" for its efforts in promoting interfaith cooperation and understanding.

Michael Salem received the "Faith in Freedom Social Justice Leadership Award" for his work in defending the First Amendment rights of Oklahomans, in particular for his work on Oklahoma's anti-Islam legislation (SQ 755) lawsuit.

World-renowned author and scholar Dr. John L. Esposito offered the keynote address on the topic of "Islamophobia and the challenges of pluralism in the 21st century."

CAIR-OK is a chapter of America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
