Arrest Made Following Threat to CAIR-San Diego

CAIR-logo(SAN DIEGO, CA, 1/30/15) -- The San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-San Diego) said today that a local man has been arrested for threatening the Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization. The threat was allegedly made in a phone call to CAIR-San Diego that threatened the use of firearms.

CAIR-San Diego reported the threat to the San Diego Police Department and worked with other law enforcement agencies and the district attorney's office prior to the arrest.

"We thank all the law enforcement authorities involved in the investigation that led to an arrest in this case," said CAIR-San Diego Executive Director Hanif Mohebi. "We hope this arrest sends a clear message that targeting Americans based on their faith or their civic participation will not be tolerated."

Mohebi said the alleged perpetrator has been released on bail.

Further information will be released at the end of the investigation once criminal proceedings have concluded.

CAIR-San Diego recently asked the FBI to investigate a threatening letter with an unknown substance sent to a local mosque.
