(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, 4/7/2015) -- Some 500 people turned out recently for the 9th annual banquet of the Oklahoma chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-OK).
Banquet speakers included Imam Suhaib Webb, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad and leaders of the Oklahoma Muslim community. Entertainment was provided by comedian Baba Ali.
At the banquet, former CAIR-OK Board Member Sheryl Siddiqui received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding service to the state over the last 20 years.
Tulsa-based Surayya Anne Foundation received the CAIR-OK Social Justice Award for its outstanding service in helping women and children in need throughout Oklahoma.
“We thank everyone who made our annual banquet such a success and all those who have supported CAIR-Oklahoma in its vital civil rights and advocacy work,” said CAIR-OK Executive Director Adam Soltani.
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
