Muslim civil rights group urges Americans to contact the White House to ask the president to sever ties with Gorka
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/16/2017) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on President Trump to fire top counter-terrorism adviser Sebastian Gorka over media reports that he is a formal member of a Hungarian group listed by the U.S. State Department as having been “under the direction of the Nazi Government of Germany” during World War II. (#DropTheNazi)
An exclusive report in The Forward newspaper indicates that Gorka’s membership in the far-right group, known as the Vitézi Rend, “could have implications for his immigration status.” The Forward notes that the “State Department’s Foreign Affairs Manual specifies that members of the Vitézi Rend ‘are presumed to be inadmissible’ to the country under the Immigration and Nationality Act.”
Gorka has been criticized for his Islamophobic views, including declining on several occasions to say whether President Trump believes Islam is a real religion.
CAIR is calling on all Americans who oppose anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and all other forms of bigotry to contact the White House to urge the president to fire Gorka.
ACTION ALERT: Contact the White House
“President Trump should demonstrate his commitment to challenging anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and all other forms of bigotry and hate by telling Mr. Gorka, ‘You’re fired,’” said CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw.
McCaw added that CAIR has noted an unprecedented spike in bias-motivated incidents and hate rhetoric targeting Muslims and other minority groups since the November 8th election.
