CAIR Welcomes 4th Circuit Ruling Against Trump’s ‘Muslim Ban’

CAIR National logo(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/25/17) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a ruling by the full panel of 13 judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit in Richmond, Va., that refused to lift a nationwide injunction blocking President Donald Trump’s revised “Muslim ban” executive order.

“Congress granted the President broad power to deny entry to aliens, but that power is not absolute,” wrote U.S. Chief Circuit Judge Roger Gregory in the ruling.

“We welcome today’s ruling as a strong indication that the federal courts reject the ‘Muslim ban’ as unconstitutional and un-American,” said CAIR National Litigation Director Lena Masri.

Earlier this month, CAIR’s California office joined a group of other community organizations in filing an amicus (friend of the court) brief in the case.

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

La misión de CAIR es mejorar la comprensión del Islam, fomentar el diálogo, proteger las libertades civiles, capacitar a los musulmanes estadounidenses, y construir coaliciones que promuevan la justicia y la comprensión mutua.
