CAIR Reps Speak at White House Rally Marking 14th Anniversary of Guantanamo

“To quote CAIR’s National Executive Director Nihad Awad – One day let alone fourteen years is too long for the U.S. to imprison one hundred men at Guantanamo without charge or trial. For seven years the president has promised to close this prison – a blemish on our nation's commitment to the rule of law – yet the situation has not improved. We are responsible for safeguarding the constitutional values which are meant to protect all Americans, persons who reside in the U.S., and those in our custody from the abuses of indefinite detention and lack of due process. We must shut down Guantanamo.”

Moreover, I would caution the president against the closure of GITMO being accomplished by creating a comparable facility with the same inadequate judicial processes inside the US. Justice delayed is justice denied, for both the U.S. and its prisoners,” said Robert S. McCaw, CAIR-National’s Government Affairs Manager at the January 11th Rally and Interfaith Service to Close Guantánamo.
