(HOUSTON, 12/4/16) – The Houston chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Houston) today called for a hate crime investigation of apparently bias-motivated vandalism targeting a Muslim-owned restaurant in Galveston, Texas.
According to media reports, the front of the restaurant was recently covered in bacon. In another recent incident, bacon grease was smeared on the front door handles of the restaurant. [NOTE: Muslims are prohibited from consuming pork products and bigots often use pigs or pork to offend Muslim sensibilities.]

“Bias is the only reasonable explanation for the use of bacon in vandalism targeting a Muslim-owned business, and law enforcement authorities should keep that possible hate motive in mind when investigating this case and in bringing charges against the alleged perpetrator,” said CAIR-Houston Executive Director Mustafaa Carroll.
On Friday, CAIR’s New York chapter condemned an alleged attack on a Muslim woman transit passenger who reportedly shouted President-elect Donald Trump’s name and Islamophobic slurs during the assault.

More than 100 anti-Muslim incidents have occurred across the country according to CAIR and almost 1000 incidents targeting different minority groups have been documented by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
