#CAIRSnapshots Video: In 1997, CAIR Launches Campaign Against Nike Shoe with Logo Resembling Arabic Word for God: Allah

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/14/19) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today released the latest “CAIR Snapshots” video highlighting a quarter century of “defending, educating and empowering the American Muslim community.” #CAIRSnapshots

Today’s snapshot features how in 1997, CAIR launches a four-month campaign that prompts NIKE to apologize to Muslims worldwide and recall shoes with a logo resembling the Arabic word for God: Allah.

Along with the apology and the recall, NIKE agrees to undergo sensitivity training, consult with Muslim representatives and construct playgrounds at several Islamic centers nationwide.
