Michael Savage (real name: Michael Weiner) is one of the army of Rush Limbaugh wannabes who have hacked a career out of fulminating on the radio. I think he's on the air in Dallas; most of them, it seems, are. . .
I have two questions:
1. Why do people, by the millions, listen to this tripe? It can't be in hopes of learning anything. Is it just that we all like to hear our own prejudices validated?
2. What do you think the reaction would be if an American radio host went on the air and said comparable things about Jews or Christians?
Bill Donohue of the Catholic League jumps up and down like Yosemite Sam every time a Hollywood comedian makes a tasteless joke about priests or the Virgin Mary. The poor man would burst a blood vessel if he turned on his radio one day and heard:
"And I'm not gettin on my knees and braying to Rome. And you could drop dead if you don't like it. You can shove it up your pipe."
The Anti-Defamation League got upset when Mike Huckabee compared abortion to the Holocaust. What would the league do if a radio host said Jews "need deportation. ... Without due process. You can take your due process and shove it."
What would the Rev. Al Sharpton do if a radio host said, "I don't wanna hear anymore about blacks. I don't wanna hear one more word about blacks. ...Shove it up your behind. I'm sick of you."
A host who said that would be bounced off the air faster than you could say, "Don Imus."
Yet when some clownish bigot rants about Muslims, about the only ones who complain are Muslim activist groups like CAIR. (MORE)
