(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/23/19) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on all Marylanders who value free speech to contact Takoma Park Mayor Kate Stewart, who has come under fire by pro-Israel groups who want to obstruct Tuesday’s screening of the “Occupation of The American Mind” documentary.
The screening was reportedly coordinated through the Takoma Park City Council by Voices from the Holy Land and exposes the pro-Israel lobby’s extensive attempts to influence public opinion in America.
Last week, CAIR issued a release applauding the City Council’s decision to reschedule the screening after discussions with officials prompted by numerous constituents contacting the organization concerned by the event’s postponement.

Jewish Voice for Peace supports the screening.
Supporters of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land have provided biased, misleading information to journalists, and rallied officials in government, media and beyond to attempt to call off the event.
This pressure led to eight members of the Montgomery County Council signing on to an “emergency letter” urging the Mayor to not permit the screening to proceed.
The film screening and panel discussion is scheduled to proceed tonight as planned.
- Send an email to Mayor Stewart at email@example.com your appreciation to her for not caving in to special interests or bullying tactics.
- Attend tonight’s screening and take part in the discussion.
