(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/16/19) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today urged all Americans to contact their elected representatives in Congress and request that they vote for a resolution condemning President Donald Trump’s recent racist comments targeting four congresswomen of color.
Introduced by Representative Tom Malinowski (D-NJ), the resolution “condemns President Donald Trump’s racist comments that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color.” It also affirms that immigrants have made America stronger and are every bit as American as those whose families have lived in the U.S. for generations. It is expected to be voted on Tuesday night.

Trump’s Sunday morning tweets suggested the congresswomen “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. . .You can’t leave fast enough.” All four are U.S. citizens.
He did not name his intended targets, but he apparently meant Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York; Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts; Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan; and Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

Yesterday, Trump doubled down on his racist remarks by falsely accusing Muslim Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of loving Al Qaeda and “talking about how great Al Qaeda is.”

In a statement, CAIR said: "It is inexcusable for the president of the United States to launch such a racist attack on members of Congress. Congress must act now to condemn these racist attacks and to defend the integrity of the office of the president."
On Monday, CAIR’s Maryland office denounced Representative Andy Harris (R-MD) for defending Trump’s tweets.
