CAIR Action Alert: Thank Your Representative in Congress Who Voted for Resolution Condemning Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/8/19) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights organization, today called on all Americans to contact their representative in Congress to thank them for voting in favor of a resolution condemning Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, racism, and other forms of bigotry.

While the resolution was introduced in response to legitimate criticism of domestic support for the discriminatory and segregationist policies of a foreign government, CAIR applauds the bill’s text as a powerful and important condemnation of prejudice and intolerance of all types. H.Res. 183 is the first piece of legislation mentioning Islamophobia to pass either chamber of Congress and only the second to ever be introduced.

“We welcome changes to the resolution made in response to criticism by grassroots coalitions and voices of conscience within the House,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “Thankfully we are entering a new era in American public discourse in which criticism of U.S. foreign policy toward Israel will not immediately be suppressed by disingenuous accusations of anti-Semitism.”

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
