(WASHINGTON, D.C., 6/20/19) -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is calling on all Americans to urge Congress to stand firm against the Trump administration’s ongoing march to an unnecessary and unconstitutional war with Iran.
CAIR is also asking both Congress and the media to investigate, question and otherwise challenge the Trump administration's claims about Iran so that the United States not launch another disastrous attack on a Middle Eastern country based on misinformation.
CAIR's action alert urges members of Congress to cosponsor the Prevention of Unconstitutional War with Iran Act of 2019 which would prohibit funds from being used for kinetic military operations against Iran unless authorized by Congress.

CAIR’s Action Alert Message to Congress:
“The American people need not feel any sympathy or affinity for the Iranian government in order to recognize that our nation should not launch another unnecessary and unjustified war in the Middle East.
"By violating the Iran nuclear deal, harming the Iranian people with renewed sanctions, and sending 1,000 American troops to the region, the Trump administration has deliberately and systematically pushed our nation toward a conflict with Iran.
"We must not allow history to repeat itself. During the run-up to the Iraq War, both Congress and the media failed to challenge the Bush administration's claims of Iraqi WMDs, ties to 9/11, and imminent nuclear warfare, all of which turned out to be utterly false. Hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children, and thousands of Americans paid for those lies with their lives.
"We must not once again go to war based on the claims of a White House that lies about anything and everything. Congress must stop this march to war. The media must challenge the narrative leading us to war. The American people must speak up against war. Not again. Not on our watch.”
In 2003, CAIR warned against the invasion of Iraq stating that “the impending attack on Iraq by the United States could result in long-term negative domestic and international consequences, even if the conflict unfolds as planned” and that such “an occupation could quickly turn into a political and military quagmire.”
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
