(SANTA CLARA, CA, 8/1/05) - On Tuesday, August 2, the Council on American-Islamic Relations San Francisco Bay Area Chapter (CAIR-SFBA) will hold a news conference at the South Bay Islamic Association (SBIA) to endorse a fatwa (Islamic religious ruling) against terrorism and religious extremism. The fatwa has been issued by the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA), an association of Islamic legal scholars that interprets Muslim religious law, and has been endorsed by more than 150 Muslim groups, leaders and institutions nationwide. (The term "fiqh" refers to Islamic jurisprudence.)
