CAIR, Civil Rights Groups to Co-Sponsor Baltimore 'Lights for Liberty' Vigil to Support Immigrant Rights, Protest Child Detention

(BALTIMORE, MD, 7/10/19) – On Friday, July 12, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, will join a coalition of local and national immigrant, civil and religious rights groups at the 'Lights for Liberty' vigil in Baltimore, Md., to protest the inhumane conditions faced by migrants at the southern border.

Lights for Liberty is a coalition dedicated to human rights, and the fundamental principle behind democracy that all human beings have a right to life, liberty and dignity.

“All members of the community are encouraged to come out and stand in solidarity with those suffering at our southern border,” said CAIR Director of Maryland Outreach Zainab Chaudry, who will speak at the vigil. “During one of the most shameful chapters in America’s history, it is important that we continue to shed a light on this government’s abusive policies that keeps children in cages.”

More than 650 Lights for Liberty events will also take place across the country and internationally on July 12.

Activists are being encouraged to use the hashtags: #Lights4Liberty, #DontLookAway, and #EndUSConcentrationCamps.
