(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/29/19) -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the latest death threat targeting Muslim Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) in which the anonymous assassin threatens a mass shooting at the Minnesota State Fair. [NOTE: The Minnesota State Fair runs until Sept. 2.]
The typed threat shared by Rep. Omar on Twitter states:
“You will not be going back to Washington, your life will end before your ‘Vacation’ ends. That being said, you won’t die alone, if that matters. Quite likely at the Minnesota State Fair, that’s where the ,you won’t die alone, comes in. However we have a very capable person with a very big ‘Gun.’ They say we can’t get the Somali Stink out of the clean Minnesota air, but we’re going to enjoy the adventure.”

In Death Threat Against Ilhan Omar, Writer Vows to Shoot Congresswoman at Minnesota State Fair
“We condemn this threat of a mass shooting targeting Representative Ilhan Omar and urge our nation’s leaders to speak out against the growing bigotry and violence experienced by minority communities in an increasingly toxic political environment nationwide,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “The alleged assassin must be brought to justice to ensure her safety and that of all visitors to the Minnesota State Fair.”
He also called for 24-hour government security for Rep. Omar, who was been targeted by similar threats in the past.
Awad said CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.
