(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/3/2019) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned both the wearing of Ku Klux Klan (KKK) robes and hoods by a group of individuals in Tennessee and the filming of a white supremacist propaganda video at a Mississippi memorial to Emmett Till.
A video of the group of people wearing the racist attire was posted Thursday on YouTube under the title “2019 Halloween in Jamestown Tennessee.” The video was reportedly taken from one of the participants’ Snapchat accounts.

“That a group of people would feel comfortable wearing symbols of racism and white supremacy is yet another indication of the mainstreaming of bigotry that we have witnessed in recent years nationwide,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
He said CAIR also condemns the filming of a propaganda video in Mississippi Saturday by a group of people standing in front of a memorial to Emmett Till, the African-American teen whose killing in 1955 helped spark the Civil Rights Movement. The Emmett Till Interpretive Center posted the video on social media.

Hooper added: “It is unconscionable that white supremacists would choose the site of Emmett Till’s memorial to promote their vile racist propaganda. This effort to promote white supremacy and racism should be condemned by all of Mississippi’s political and religious leaders.”
Earlier this year, CAIR condemned the actions of three University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) students who stood with guns in front of a bullet-riddled memorial to Till.
