CAIR-CT Welcomes Ticketing of Suspect Involved in Anti-Muslim Hate Incident

(HARTFORD, CT, 11/20/2019) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations Connecticut (CAIR-CT) today welcomed police action against a 49-year-old woman who allegedly used racial slurs and threats targeting a Muslim woman wearing Islamic head scarf (hijab).

Police say the woman was issued a ticket for creating a public disturbance during the incident inside a Macy’s store just on Monday.

“We welcome the citation of the woman for disturbing the peace and urge consideration of further charges based on the alleged bias motive for this individual’s bigoted actions,” said CAIR CT Executive Director Tark Richard Aouadi.

CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.
