(DALLAS, TEXAS, 1/16/19) -- The Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW) today called for the resignation of a Texas county commissioner over Islamophobic Facebook comments about Muslims and the planned Islamic Center of Midland.
Winkler County Commissioner Hope Fernandez Williams wrote: "How about building a Bar-B-Que next door, maybe a gay strip club, and then see how tolerant they are!" Other posts falsely claimed Muslims want to “eradicate” Jews and promoted an image of a “Muslim-Free Shopping” graphic.

Texas County Official Under Fire Following Anti-Muslim Comments
The Islamic Center of Midland will reportedly be the first purpose-built mosque in the West Texas city.
“Such bigoted comments are reprehensible, especially coming from a government official,” said Ekram Haque, CAIR-DFW acting executive director. “The Midland Muslim community, like any other in our state and our country, is entitled to build a place of worship. It is sad that instead of welcoming the new mosque, the commissioner chose to show hostility. She should resign her post.”
Yesterday, CAIR’s Florida office called for the resignation of Hallandale Commissioner Annabelle Lima-Taub’s who claimed online that newly-elected Muslim Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib might ‘blow up’ Capitol Hill.
