(DALLAS, TX, 12/12/2019) – The Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW) today joined the Gilmer, Texas, community in showing support for a Muslim woman targeted by an Islamophobic social media post.

“No one should be targeted by hate, especially a mother taking her children to a public festival. Such comments are hateful, Islamophobic and go against American values of diversity and religious inclusion,” said Faizan Syed, executive director of CAIR-DFW.

CAIR-DFW is working with the Gilmer community to hold an interfaith event to bring the community together and to have them meet their Muslim neighbors.

The Washington-based Muslim civil rights organization has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
