CAIR Director Nihad Awad Named to 2020 List of World’s ‘500 Most Influential Muslims’

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/1/19) –Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has again been named to “The Muslim 500: The World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims.”

[NOTE: Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was named a “Person of the Year” along with Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan.]

Awad’s entry on the 2020 list states:

"Nihad Awad is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). CAIR is the most prominent Muslim lobby group in the US and is frequently sought out by the media and politicians for the Islamic perspective on events. Awad is one of the signatories of A Common Word Between Us and You and participates regularly in the US Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. Awad coordinated the formal release of the Open Letter to Al-Baghdadi, signed by over 120 leading Muslim scholars and academics, which rejected the extremist teachings promoted by da’ish.”

Other American Muslims named to the list include Dalia Mogahed, Khaled Beydoun, Rep. André Carson, Keith Ellison, Sherman Jackson, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Linda Sarsour, Omar Suleiman, Imam Siraj Wahhaj, and Imam Suhaib Webb.
