Unfortunately, bigotry and suspicion against Muslims is rising in the United States. The biased comments expressed in the April 7 letter, "Perfect storm?" are but one example of that trend. The letter writer incorrectly asserts that Muslims are pushing for Sharia law in the United Kingdom.
In fact, it was Rowan Williams, the archbishop of Canterbury, who noted in an interview with the BBC on Feb. 7 that Orthodox Jews have their own court system in the U.K., and so allowing Muslims to settle disputes in their own courts would not be a precedent for the British legal system.
Additionally, emphasizing Barack Obama's middle name and fictitious ties to Louis Farrakhan also demonstrates the letter writer's hostility to anything associated with Muslims.
