The Trump administration is dismantling the U.S. asylum system and targeting the refugee resettlement program. CAIR-Florida, the Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC), and other immigrant and civil rights organizations will join on a national day of action demanding that Congress stop the attacks on the asylum policies and immediately restore the refugee resettlement policies to historic norms. The organizations are denouncing Trump administration’s anti-immigrant policies in Florida and the ICE raids occurring around the country resulting in more immigrant family separations and more communities living in fear.
CAIR-Florida’s Orlando Regional Coordinator Begum Becerik, stated: “Family separation policies are a direct attack against basic human rights. The Trump administration’s assault on asylum policies is an insult to our American values, belittling the contributions that immigrants have made to build this nation; and choosing to ignore the fact that to this date, our immigrant communities continue to build and serve our nation. The administration continues to ignore the fact that in our diversity resides our strength.”
CAIR-Florida is the state’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
