Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, sentenced to life in prison for killing a sheriff’s deputy in 2000, has been transferred into federal custody, the state prison system said.

Al-Amin, the former 1960s militant H. Rap Brown, was convicted in 2002 for fatally shooting a Fulton County sheriff’s deputy and wounding another.

Al-Amin was transferred Wednesday from the Georgia State Prison in Reidsville, Georgia Department of Corrections spokeswoman Yolanda Thompson said Thursday morning.
