The Howard County Muslim Foundation donated 5,000 pounds of nonperishable food products to the Howard County Food Bank Aug. 24 following its seventh annual food drive.
“This is perhaps the best year that we’ve had … not only in terms of the turnout but also the food that we collected,” foundation President Dr. Rashid Chotani said.
About 40 volunteers collected the food from throughout the county after leaving 7,000 plastic bags and fliers at houses between Aug. 20 and Aug. 23, Chotani said. Volunteers also set up booths at various grocery stores to collect nonperishable and canned goods, he added.
Volunteers picked up the food Aug. 24 and donated it to the Community Action Council for Howard County, which runs the Howard County Food Bank. (MORE)
