Najmeh Maqsood said she had never felt discriminated against because of her
Pakistani background and Muslim faith. That all changed last month.
In two separate incidents, the Clifton Park woman said, she and her family
members and friends were detained for hours by U.S. border officials on
their return from Canada. They all are United States citizens, except for a
British friend and her son who were traveling with them.
Maqsood said she, her husband and their teenage children were kept at the
border station at the Lewiston Bridge for seven hours before they were
allowed to leave. Her husband was frisked, handcuffed and put in a small
cell for two hours, she said.
A few days earlier, Maqsood’s sister, her family and friends were detained
for more than three hours at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing near Buffalo..
