Mr. Khasoggi's fiance, Hatice Cengiz, will address the memorial service
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/31/18) – On Friday, November 2, the newly-formed campaign Justice for Jamal Khashoggi (#JusticeforJamal) will host a memorial service for the murdered Washington Post commentator at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.
Speakers at the memorial include (but are not limited to): Hatice Cengiz, Khashoggi's fiancé (via video link), Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA); Dr. Abdullah Alodah; Andrew Miller, Project on Middle East Democracy; Tom Porteous, Human Rights Watch; Daniel Balson, Amnesty International Tom Melia, PEN America; Dr. Courtney Radsch, Committee to Protect Journalists; Nihad Awad, CAIR.
The event, to be held on the one-month anniversary of Khashoggi’s murder in the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, coincides with the UN's "International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists’ and will include a panel discussion with the theme “Remembering Jamal Khashoggi: His Life, Legacy and Dreams for the Arab World.”
It will also include a funeral prayer, called “salat al-ghaib” (sa-lat al-guy-ib), which is performed for Muslims who have died in a distant place.
NOTE: Muslims participating in the event will be able to offer their Friday prayer (Jummah) on site.
