In a statement, MAS-PACE GLA Director Yasmeen Azam said:

“We have seen time and time again, numerous reports of individuals, activists, journalists, and scholars whose lives are brutally cut short or imprisoned simply for speaking up. The gross abuse of power and denial of basic fundamental rights to life and liberty cannot be ignored.

“We appeal to all people of conscience to raise their voices against this injustice and to prioritize the honoring of life and scholarship. Freedom for dissenting voices without state coercion is fundamental to human rights. It is of moral imperative that we mobilize to support the freedom of our prominent scholars and many others.”

In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:

“It is morally disgraceful that a nation considered a long-time ally of the United States would engage in human rights abuses, including curtailing freedom of speech and freedom of assembly and political dissent. It is imperative that our government stands against these abuse of international freedoms, especially when conducted by countries enjoying permanent normal trade relations status.”

The coalition calls for the Trump Administration to respect and stand boldly for the freedom of political expression. Additionally, all elected representatives are urged to demand the Saudi regime guarantee international freedoms such as freedom of speech and freedom of assembly for all of its citizens.

CAIR-LA is Southern California’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims.
