A 36-year-old Macomb Township man said he was called a "stupid Arab" by a supervisor at the Detroit Medical Center and then fired because he was an Arab-American Muslim.
Yasser Sharif, a former employee at Children's Hospital of Michigan, has filed a discrimination lawsuit against the hospital and the center. Sharif worked at the hospital, which is part of the center, as a poison-control specialist, according to the lawsuit.
His attorney filed the lawsuit Friday in Wayne County Circuit Court and it was announced Wednesday at a press conference in Southfield.
Sharif said he was fired after he reported some scheduling problems. He said a supervisor called him a "stupid Arab." After he was fired, another employee said, "now there is one less Muslim in the poison center," according to the suit. (MORE)
