CAIR-MI Welcomes Reversal of Unjust Conviction of Prominent Detroit Muslim Activist

(FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, 08/21/2019) - The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI), a local chapter of the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the reversal of an unjust conviction by a Michigan court of a Muslim who is a prominent Detroit environmental and racial justice activist.

The Michigan Court of Appeals yesterday overturned convictions against Siwatu-Salama Ra for brandishing a registered, unloaded firearm when defending herself and daughter against an attacker.  Ra was forced to give birth to her daughter while incarcerated and was denied religious dietary and prayer accommodations.
