(MINNEAPOLIS, MN, 12/31/18) - - The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN) today called on law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for the vehicular harassment of a Muslim family.
CAIR-MN says the interracial family was allegedly targeted on a highway this afternoon in Shakopee, Minn., by a driver who made disturbing hand gestures and brought his truck close to theirs in a manner that made the family members feel threatened.
The mother of the family, who wears an Islamic head scarf (hijab), took video of the alleged harasser. The driver of the truck, which had a Greek phrase (ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ) often used by gun rights advocates on the back window, covered his face with camouflage material. A report has been filed with Shakopee police (report number 18030425).
[NOTE: ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ is a classical Greek phrase meaning “come and take [them]” and is used as a challenge to perceived attempts by the government to confiscate firearms.]

“All Minnesotans should be able to travel freely with their families without fear of racial or religious intimidation or harassment,” said CAIR-MN Executive Director Jaylani Hussein. “We urge law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for this apparent act of vehicular harassment.”
Earlier this year, CAIR’s Georgia chapter called on law enforcement to locate and arrest a driver who used his pickup truck to harass and endanger a Muslim family while they traveled on Highway I-85 in Atlanta.
