CAIR Offers Condolences on Passing of Former Baltimore-Area Attorney and Community Advocate Melvin Bilal

(BALTIMORE, MD, 1/14/20) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today offered its sincere condolences on the passing of former Baltimore area attorney and community advocate Melvin Bilal, who died over the weekend in Florida.  

Bilal, a respected figure in the Maryland Muslim community, was affiliated with various mosques, institutions and organizations across the state. He selflessly dedicated his time and resources to improving the lives of others. 

“We offer our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Br. Melvin Bilal,” said CAIR Director of Maryland Outreach Zainab Chaudry. “He was a pioneer for the newer generation of local Muslim activists and leaders and will be remembered fondly for his contributions.”  

The janaza (funeral prayer) was held Tuesday, January 14, after the Zhuhr prayer (1:20) at the Islamic Society of Tampa Bay, 7326 E. Sligh Avenue, Tampa, Fla. 33610
