CAIR-OH: World a Better Place Because of Pope

The world is a better place because of Pope John Paul II. As people around the world mourn his passing, the Muslim community will also miss his wise counsel and advocacy for peace, justice, human rights and good interfaith relations. John Paul not only preached these virtues, he practiced them. He was the first pope to visit a mosque, thus paving the way for peaceful and respectful relations between Catholics and Muslims and in fact among peoples of all faiths.

It is up to all who believe in his message of peace and reconciliation to continue to carry it out in their own lives. In this way his legacy will continue to live on, God willing. Karen Dabdoub is with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Ohio Chapter, Cincinnati Office.
