CAIR Partners with MD Muslim Organization to Launch 2018 Election Candidate Survey

(Baltimore, Md., 8/8/18) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations, America’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, announced today that it has partnered with the United Maryland Muslim Council to launch the first statewide election candidate survey coordinated by Muslim organizations.

Its goal is to provide candidates in local, state and congressional races in Maryland the opportunity to weigh in on key issues that affect or interest Muslim communities and their allies, with the intention of promoting voter turnout and assisting Marylanders to make an informed decision at the polls on Election Day.

While CAIR and UMMC have a strict policy of not endorsing any political party or candidate, both encourage civic and political engagement. The results from the survey will be published in a CAIR/UMMC Voter Guide to be released this Fall. It is expected to reach hundreds of thousands of Maryland residents who have the potential to influence or decide the outcome of these races.

CAIR recently reminded American Muslim voters to go to the polls ahead of the primaries today in Ohio (special election), Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington states. The civil rights organization also reminded Muslim voters to get out the vote in advance of the 15-additional state primary elections taking place before the Tuesday, November 6 midterm elections.
