Position: Full-time salaried

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization with chapters across the country. The national headquarters is located on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is seeking a qualified individual for the full-time position of Legal Assistant/Client Relations Coordinator at its Washington, D.C., headquarters. The position will report to the National Litigation and Civil Rights Director.

Essential Functions/Duties:

The Legal Assistant/Client Relations Coordinator will be primarily responsible for:

• Serve as initial point of contact for those contacting the Litigation and Civil
Rights Department
• Properly handling, routing, tracking and documenting all incoming correspondences
per department policies
• Interviewing prospective clients, processing intakes, obtaining detailed fact
summaries and key evidence, keeping detailed case logs, overseeing client onboarding and managing
case referrals per department policies
• Maintaining positive relationship with all clients and keeping clients apprised of
developments with their cases
• Drafting routine correspondences and documents
• Receiving, tracking, scanning and distributing mail
• Creating and managing legal department files
• Maintaining the civil rights database and ensuring the data is complete and accurate
• Managing interns and intern tasks
• Coordinating and scheduling department events, including presentations, lectures,
webinars, meetings, calls, among others
• Providing ongoing administrative support to department staff as needed
• Providing information, data and support to departments and chapters as requested
• May be required to attend and aid with organizational events as needed
• Travel and weekend hours required as needed

Skills and Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Associate Degree
• At least two years of administrative experience, legal administrative experience
• Certification by National Association of Legal Secretaries a plus
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, advanced proficiency a plus
• Ability to handle an array of confidential matters
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment
• Highly motivated, ability to work well both independently and in a team environment,
and ability to handle and complete tasks with minimal supervision
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required
• An understanding of civil rights issues relating to American Muslims

• Passion for the mission of the Council on American-Islamic Relations
• Ability to communicate in language other than English is a plus
