IL: Mosque's Boy Scouts to Hold Blood Drive

As a way of giving back to the community, the Islamic Society of Northwest
Suburbs will hold a blood drive this weekend at its mosque.

The blood drive is being hosted by the Rolling Meadows-based society in
conjunction with its Boy Scout Troop 786.

"All the youths are proactive in the community and community service,"
society President Mo Salam said. "They are coming up with ideas to
contribute to the society and the community."

Salam said the society has been actively pursuing different avenues to
support and remain an integral part of the northwest suburbs.

"We are a grateful people," he added. "We benefit from the city and the
area and we want to give something back."

The society has been accepting appointments for donations. The society is
working with Glenview-based LifeSource to collect blood.

Salam said he expects about 100 people to give blood at the drive.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the mosque,
3890 Industrial Drive, Rolling Meadows.

Scoutmaster Alex Temple said the service project is one of several the
troop plans to do in the next year. The calendar has not been planned yet,
but he said the Scouts are enthusiastic about doing other service-oriented
events.
