Learn new skills at CAIR's March 30 Training Conference
At the conference, headlined “Muslims in America: Moving Forward with Faith,” top trainers in their fields will offer workshops and lectures on media relations, civil rights advocacy, coalition building, and political empowerment. Workshop presenters include Muslim congressional staffers, professional leadership trainers, representatives of national grassroots civil liberties advocacy organizations, media representatives, and CAIR staffers. Online registration is now available for CAIR's intensive Training Conference on Saturday, March 30, and Sunday, March 31. Location: Sheraton Premiere in Mclean (Tysons Corner), Virginia. Event starts 8:00 AM with on-site registration. (Please note that a detailed program of events will be online shortly). Examples of conference workshops:
MEDIA RELATIONS BASICS
Learning Objectives: Workshop participants will learn: 1) The “Top 10” rules of media relations. 2) How to write and submit an editorial or letter to the editor. 3) How to write a news release. 4) How to hold a media event.
HOW TO BE AN EFFECTIVE SPOKESPERSON - (NEW)
Learning Objectives: Participants will gain an understanding of: 1) The basic skills needed to be interviewed by the media. 2) The process used to book guests for radio and television talk shows. 3) What you need to know about “talking points” and “deflecting statements.”
LOBBYING 101: POSITIVE INTERACTION WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS - (NEW)
Learning Objectives: Participants will: 1) Learn basic skills to help them advocate community issues with local and national elected officials and government agencies. 2) Gain an understanding of the importance of grassroots support. 3) Learn how to build credibility and influence the public debate on legislation.
MOBILIZING GRASSROOTS ACTIVISM - (NEW)
Learning Objectives: Participants will learn how to lead a grassroots campaign from conception to completion.
Learning Objectives: In a fast-paced, fun seminar, participants will learn: 1) The difference between speaking and communication. 2) How speakers really communicate with their audiences. 3) The four keys to visual communication. 4) Three vocal communication techniques. 5) Four facts about verbal communication. 6) 8 Unbreakable Rules of Speaking.

The conference will include a Saturday night banquet with national Muslim leaders to announce a major Islamic initiative for the coming year.
