Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator

Schedule Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Location: Office located in Anaheim, CA. It requires some travel throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area.

The Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for community outreach, volunteer engagement, and event planning.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Islamic centers, MSAs, youth groups and others to advance CAIR-LA’s work
  • Coordinate a comprehensive mosque outreach plan including seasonal development campaigns such as Ramadan, Friday prayer, and banquet
  • Develop and maintain relationships with mosques to increase and expand outreach efforts
  • Coordinate Volunteer Program and establish CAIR Mosque Coordinator program, including identifying and engaging volunteers, establishing lists of projects and volunteer activities, supervise and/or assign volunteers to staff, provide support and training to volunteers, and maintaining volunteer database
  • Develop partnerships with Muslim organizations, civil rights non-profits, and other organizations to increase outreach
  • Attend relevant organizations’ events usually at night/weekends – activities and meetings as needed (community partners, college campuses, nonprofits, mosques, etc.)
  • Assist in the promotion and delivery of CAIR-LA programs for various departments (legal, development, advocacy, communications, etc.) including banquets, public education programs, interactive workshops, training sessions and forums
  • Help organize events as needed: securing a venue, food, audiovisual, travel arrangements, and other event-related matters
  • Maintain an annual events calendar and events timeline
  • Maintain, replenish and distribute marketing and educational material and provide up-to-date inventory tracking
  • This position will require some night and weekend commitment
  • Other relevant tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone, with high degree of professionalism
  • Self-directed individual, strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple ongoing initiatives
  • Experience conducting outreach and working with volunteers
  • Familiarity, knowledge and experience working with the American Muslim community
  • Work experience with a non-profit organization or in a related field
  • Willingness and flexibility to change job requirements as the team grows

Legal Administrative Coordinator

Schedule type: Full-time (Non-exempt)
Location: Office located in Anaheim, CA.  Requires some travel throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, Greater Los Angeles Area office (CAIR-LA) seeks a full-time, Legal Administrative Coordinator to work with the legal team at the Anaheim office location.  CAIR-LA is a non-profit grassroots civil rights and advocacy organization aimed at enhancing understanding of Islam, encouraging dialogue, protecting civil liberties, empowering American-Muslims, and building coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

The Legal Administrative Coordinator will provide support to the legal team, which comprises the Civil Rights and Immigrants’ Rights Center.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Answers phone calls and directs calls to appropriate legal staff
  • Conduct intakes and maintain a detailed log of all interactions with and services to clients for ongoing case management
  • Assign case numbers in CAIR-National database
  • Data entry tasks for reporting purposes
  • Coordinate the daily needs of the legal department including calendaring
  • Organize, file, mail and track legal files
  • Jointly coordinate clerkship and internship recruitment, onboarding, training, and support on daily tasks Develop relationships with legal partners and local law schools
  • Outreach coordination for legal events/tabling
  • Generate statistics and data for reporting
  • Review and monitor case intake system for consistency and accuracy
  • Direct follow-up communication with clients for information gathering
  • Duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of administrative experience (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • Demonstrated commitment to civil liberties and immigrants’ rights
  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills, and an ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks and work independently
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and general office equipment
  • Fluency in a second language (Urdu, Spanish or Arabic preferred)
  • Familiarity with case management systems (preferred)

Grant Writer

Schedule Type: Part-time or Full-time, Non-exempt

Reports to: Senior Development & Marketing Manager

Location: Office located in Anaheim, CA. Requires some travel throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area.

CAIR-Greater Los Angeles Area is looking for a Grant Writer.

The Grant Writer is responsible for supporting the Development Department by successfully growing income through grant opportunities. Responsibilities include researching, applying for, and managing grants. They are responsible for submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant-funded projects.

The role requires strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. The candidate must be comfortable working productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a rapidly growing organization.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation, government and corporate sources
  • Research potential grants, stay up-to-date on current and potential partners’ work to explore opportunities, arrange meetings to build/maintain relationships with funders
  • Work with other departments to gather information necessary to complete grant applications and reporting requirements
  • Maintain system for document tracking, follow up on grant deliverables and submit reports as required on a timely basis
  • Assist with other Development projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and previous grant writing experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills (oral & written); ability to write persuasive proposals
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet strict deadlines
  • Must have strong initiative and demonstrate the ability to learn in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision
  • A record of measurable results in securing grant funding
  • Comfortable working productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with a rapidly growing organization
