A panel discussion on Wayne State University's campus this evening will share the findings of a task force on Muslim involvement in American political and civic life.
The study, called "Strengthening America: The Civic and Political Integration of Muslim Americans," was led by Tarooq Kathwari, CEO of Ethan Allen Interiors Inc., and former Secretary of Labor and Illinois congresswoman Lynn Martin. The 32-member task force of both Muslim and non-Muslim Americans discussed the current Muslim experience.
Members also made recommendations to increase the level on which Muslims participate in civic and political issues. These included making the public more aware of Muslim Americans' contributions to national security in the post-Sept. 11 world, increasing Muslim civic engagement, building stronger Muslim-American institutions and cultivating the next generation of Muslim Americans.
The study was sponsored by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. (MORE)
