Muslim Civil Rights Group Applauds Holder’s Stance on ‘Waterboarding’





(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/15/2009) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today applauded Attorney General-nominee Eric Holder’s designation of “waterboarding” as a form of torture.
"I agree with you, Mr. Chairman, that waterboarding is torture," Holder said in response to questioning at today’s Senate confirmation hearing.

In a statement, CAIR said:


“We hope that the new administration’s rejection of the illegal and immoral use of torture will help restore our nation’s image as a standard-bearer of justice worldwide. Following what we hope will be speedy confirmation, the American Muslim community looks forward to working with Attorney General Holder to ensure the fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans.”
