Vandals have attacked around 40 Muslim graves at a cemetery in London in an apparent hate crime, police said on Thursday.
Headstones were smashed and pictures removed from graves in Charlton, southeast London, local police said.
"We are treating this crime with the utmost seriousness. It appears to have been motivated by hatred of the Muslim faith," said Detective Inspector Karl Amos.
"We utterly deplore the sentiments behind this crime as well as the crime itself and are seeking to reassure the faith leaders in our community that this sort of crime will not be tolerated."
