Muslims Hold Ramadan Voter Registration Drive

Washington, D.C. – It's the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan, and Muslims around the world are turning up their efforts to seek the favor of the Almighty in various ways. Here in the nation's capitol, the Muslim Democratic Caucus of the District of Columbia ("Muslim Dem of DC") are hoping to please their Maker using a novel instrument, a voter registration form. The Muslim Dems of DC are joined in their call by the Prince George's Muslim Council and the Muslim Alliance of North America…

Over the next 10 days, these groups plan to distribute voter registration materials and be on hand at Islamic centers across the Potomac region and around the country. This drive comes at a key time, when many states are approaching their Voter Registration Deadlines (e.g., October 6 is the registration deadline for Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia). Muslims celebrate the final 10 days of Ramadan as it marks the anniversary of the revelation of the Quran, a day said to be worth 1000 months of blessings…

How: Muslim Dems of DC, PGMC, and MANA will have volunteers and staff members set up at various locations in DC/MD/VA area as well as throughout the rest of the United States, including Islamic Centers, Muslim restaurants and Islamic book stores to provide Voter registration forms, on a nonpartisan basis.
