A Newark teen who traveled to Iran to represent the United States in the International Physics Olympiad recently returned home with a silver medal -- one of five the U.S. team earned.

Rui Hu, a senior at The Charter School of Wilmington, said he enjoyed the intense two-day competition as well as the chance to sightsee and soak up the Iranian culture.

The competition, which was held at the University of Isfahan, hosted 70 countries, including the travelling team of five high school students from the U.S. -- Hu; Jason LaRue of Miami; Haofei Wei of Oklahoma City; Kenan Diab of Gates Mills, Ohio; Jenny Kwan of San Marcos, Calif.
