After terrorists beheaded American Paul M. Johnson Jr. last week in Saudi Arabia, the Council on American-Islamic Relations launched a petition drive. The petition, headed "Not in the name of Islam," begins: "We, the undersigned, wish to state clearly that those who commit acts of terror and murder in the name of Islam are not only destroying innocent lives, but are also devastating the image of the faith they claim to represent."
The civilized world is repulsed and outraged by the wave of beheadings that began with the killing of American Nicholas E. Berg last month... The civilized world includes the vast majority of Muslims. Americans should remember that, rather than letting terrorists succeed in sowing irrational hatred.
